Summary |
During the 20th century, Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) made a spectacular leap. Nowadays, the Internet allows us to multiply the possibilities of information exchange around the world. This media can be accessed by many technologies (e.g., television, computer, tablet, smartphone). The purpose of this thematic issue is to describe the space of ICTs in the patients and the therapists’ life. Particular attention has been given to proposing therapeutic approaches of CBT, on line and off-line and about the three waves of CBT. Video games as well as Internet are magnificent tools for self-fulfillment. However, some patients report emotional, cognitive and behavioral difficulties related to using ICTs. To address this topic, we chose the spectrum of addiction. We will see that addiction to ICT remains controversial. In addition to the addictive side of ICTs, we also propose to explore too the positive use of technology for CBT. The papers in this thematic issue allow us to consider ICTs through a multiple point of view (e.g., information, therapy, desire to escape, communication, relationships with others, leisure activity, sexuality). For therapists, these various research and literature reviews will provide a way to adapt their practice of CBT for patients suffering from ICT addiction or problematic use.
